Immediate past Governor of Plateau State, Barrister Simon Lalong, has been sworn-in as Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial District in the 10th Senate.
Lalong who resigned as Minister of Labour from President Bola Tinubu ‘s cabinet two days replaces Napoleon Bali of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who was sacked by the court of Appeal on the strength of litigation filed against him by Lalong at the election petitions Tribunal .
The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, who supervised the swearing in of Lalong by the Clerk of the Senate, Chinedu Akubueze, at the beginning of plenary on Wednesday, welcomed him from the Executive to the legislative arm of government.
“Your Excellency, you are welcome to the 10th, where your wealth of experience in governance and passion to move the country forward, would be brought to bear,” he said.
Lalong was accompanied by APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, APC State Chairman Rufus Bature, his wife Mrs Regina Lalong, Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda who was declared winner of the Plateau Governorship election by the Court of Appeal , Hon Pam Bot-Mang Dr Nentawe’s running mate , members of Plateau caucus in the National Assembly among others.
Our correspondent reports that with Lalong joining the 10th Senate on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ,the number of Senators from the party are now 60, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) , has 37, Labour Party 7, New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) 2, Social Democratic Party (SDP) 2 and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) 1, totalling 109 .
