In a continued effort to support communities affected by violent attacks, the Executive Chairman of Riyom Local Government Council, Honorable Bature Sati Shuwa, has donated relief materials worth millions of naira to the people of Wereng-camp, a community that was attacked by gunmen suspected to be Fulani militia in May 2025.

During a visit to the camp Hon. Shuwa presented 100 bundles of roofing sheets, 500 pieces of roofing wood, roofing nails, and an undisclosed amount of cash to assist victims in rebuilding their homes.

The Chairman stated that the donation was in fulfillment of a promise he made to the community during an earlier condolence visit following the attacks that claimed nine lives and 33 houses burnt.

“The people of Wereng-camp have shown remarkable resilience and determination to remain in their ancestral land despite continuous threats.

This visit is to reaffirm our commitment to standing with you and to help you rebuild what has been destroyed,” Hon. Shuwa said.

He also assured the community of the Council’s ongoing efforts to enhance security, noting that additional security personnel would soon be deployed to safeguard lives and property in the area.

Receiving the items on behalf of the community, Hon. Pam Davou Gyang, Councilor representing Wereng Ward, expressed gratitude to the Executive Chairman for fulfilling his promise.

He hailed the gesture as timely and encouraging, emphasizing the community’s willingness to support the administration’s developmental efforts.

“We appreciate the Chairman’s concern for our people and the steps he has taken to bring relief to us. We remain committed to working with the local government for the progress and peace of Riyom,” Hon. Gyang said, also echoing the call for increased security deployment.

A statement signed by Amba A. Davis
Information Unit Riyom Local government council reads that the Chairman was accompanied by the Secretary to the Council, Chief Abraham Tonjin, Directors of the Council, Supervisory Councilor for Social Services, Hon. Dachung Pam Solomon, among other officials.

Our correspondent reports that this is not the first time Hon. Shuwa’s administration has reached out to the Wereng-camp community.

However, the latest intervention is notably larger and more comprehensive than previous donations, reflecting the Council’s strengthened commitment to supporting internally displaced persons and victims of senseless herdsmen attacks.
