Executive Chairman-Elect, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, has thanked AMAC residents for re-electing him during the 2026 FCT Area Council held on Saturday, February 21.

Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Sunday, declared Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the duly elected chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) in the 2026 FCT Area Council election held on Saturday.

The AMAC Collation Officer, Prof. Andrew Abue, announced that Maikalangu, the incumbent chairman, secured 40,295 votes out of 62,861 valid votes cast in the election, returning him to office.

According to the results, African Democratic Congress (ADC)’s Paul Ogidi polled 12,109 votes, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s Dantani Zanda polled 3,398 votes, Social Democratic Party (SDP)’s Simon Obinna polled 2,185 votes, New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP)’s Jibrin Alhassan polled 1,694 votes, while All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA)’s Eze Onyebuchi Chukwu polled 1,111 votes.

Prof. Abue disclosed that 2,336 votes were rejected, bringing the total votes cast to 65,197. He added that AMAC has 837,338 registered voters, with 65,676 accredited voters participating in the election.

“Christopher Maikalangu of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected,” Abue said.

Addressing reporters at the Maikalangu/Nadabo Campaign office in Garki, Maikalangu, who was represented by the Secretary General, Maikalangu/Nadabo Campaign Council, Comrade Bala Gambo Babale, said his victory is for the entire people of AMAC.

He thanked the Minister of the FCT, Barrister Nyesom Wike, for his support, saying his victory wouldn’t have been possible without the Minister’s relentless effort in making sure the All Progressives Congress (APC) triumphed in the election.

Maikalangu also lauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for being transparent and fair in the election, even as he lauded security agencies for exhibiting professionalism in the election.

He said the 40,295 votes he garnered in the election will serve as a benchmark for future candidates of the party.

He said: “On behalf of the Maikalangu/Nadabo Campaign Council, I stand before you today with a heart full of gratitude. We have witnessed a historic demonstration of democratic will.

“Your massive turnout and the overwhelming 40,295 votes recorded during the just-concluded FCT Area Council Election have reaffirmed your trust in purposeful leadership and the continuity of progress.

“Our Executive Chairman-Elect, Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, and his Vice, Hon. Nadabo, are deeply humbled by the “sea of heads” seen at the polls.

“This victory secured by over 40,000 of our citizens is not a win for one political party; it is a victory for every resident who believes in a better, more prosperous AMAC.

“As a Council, we must thank INEC for their commitment to the democratic process and our Security Agencies for ensuring a peaceful and orderly environment.

“To the Media, we thank you for your objective and tireless coverage from the start of our consultations to this final declaration.”

He added: “To our dedicated Party Agents, Stakeholders, and fellow members of the Campaign Council, ours supporters: your sleepless nights and unwavering loyalty have yielded this glorious dawn. We also honor our Traditional Rulers and Religious Leaders for their prayers, wise counsel, and for maintaining the peace within their domains throughout this period.

“A special thank you goes to the engine of our economy: our Market Women, Artisans, Transporters, and the entire Business Community, including our traders and all other trading groups from every part of Nigeria who call AMAC home.

“Your belief in our vision for a thriving local economy is the fuel that will drive our next term. To our Youths, Women, and Student Unions: your energy and advocacy were the very heartbeat of this movement.

“This victory is a resounding testament to the people’s belief in the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR).

“We also highly commend the Honorable Minister of the FCT, whose capacity and leadership continue to transform the nation’s capital, providing the template upon which we build. And the Minister of State for FCT, Dr Maryam Mahmoud.
As we noted during our ward-to-ward campaign tours, we heard your needs clearly.

“Today, through this victory, we reiterate our commitment to bringing more government presence directly into your communities through enhanced security, infrastructure, healthcare, education, and empowerment. The work of continuity begins now.

“Thank you for voting for progress. Thank you for voting Maikalangu/ Nadabo!”
