Delta Rangers FA emerged winners of the maiden Champions Edition of the Oke Umurhohwo Football Competition, defeating Super Sheraton FC 5–3 on penalties after a goalless draw in the final.

The special edition of the tournament was designed exclusively for former champions, with only the last four winners of the Oke Umurhohwo Football Competition invited to compete. The participating teams were Super Sherston FC, Delta Rangers FA, Solution FC, and Excellent FC, although Excellent FC was unable to honour their fixture, reducing the competition to three active teams.

Tight Contest Sets the Tone

The opening match between Solution FC and Super Sheraton FC ended in a 0–0 draw, setting the tone for what would be a closely contested tournament. Both sides showed discipline and tactical organisation, with chances at a premium and defences firmly on top.

Delta Rangers Make Their Mark

Delta Rangers FA then recorded the only goal from open play in the competition, edging Solution FC 1–0 in a tense encounter. Mike proved decisive, scoring the winning goal to secure Rangers’ place in the final and underline their title credentials.

In another high-stakes clash, Super Sheraton FC booked their spot in the final by defeating Solution FC 3–2 on penalties after regulation time ended level. The match once again highlighted the fine margins separating the former champions.

Final Decided from the Spot

The final between Delta Rangers FA and Super Sheraton FC lived up to expectations. Both teams cancelled each other out over 90 minutes, with neither side able to break the deadlock despite sustained pressure and moments of individual brilliance.

With the scores locked at 0–0 at full time, the title was decided by penalties. Delta Rangers FA held their nerve, converting five of their spot kicks to Super Sherston’s three, sealing victory and becoming the first Champions Edition winners.

Celebrating Consistency and Legacy

Speaking after the tournament, the Founder of the competition, Hon. Oke Umurhohwo, described the Champions Edition as a celebration of consistency and growth in grassroots football.
“This edition was special because it rewarded continuity. These teams are past winners who returned stronger, more disciplined, and more organised. That tells us the competition is doing what it was created to do, build character, talent, and community through football.”

The Champions Edition reinforced the tournament’s reputation as a credible grassroots platform, offering competitive football while strengthening community engagement and youth development in Ughelli and its environs.

Looking Ahead

With the successful conclusion of the Champions Edition, attention now turns to future editions of the Oke Umurhohwo Football Competition, as organisers look to build on the momentum and continue providing structured opportunities for young footballers.
