The Evangelical Church Winning All has urged its members to actively participate in the 2027 general elections, while expressing concern over worsening insecurity and the poor state of road infrastructure across Nigeria.
The resolutions were part of a communiqué issued at the end of the 73rd General Church Council, GCC, meeting of ECWA held at its International Headquarters in Jos, Plateau State, from April 21 to 24, 2026.
The communiqué, jointly signed by ECWA President, Rev. Dr. Job Ayuba Bagat Malam, and General Secretary, Rev. Dr. Ayuba Asheshe, said the Council deliberated on issues of spiritual growth, governance, mission and national concerns.
On the 2027 general elections, the Council called on all eligible members to register and participate actively in the electoral process.
It also encouraged members who are called and gifted for partisan politics to step forward and engage responsibly.
The Council noted that the absence of principled and value-driven individuals in politics often creates room for poor governance and leadership deficits.
ECWA also urged electoral institutions to discharge their duties with integrity, transparency and fairness to strengthen public confidence in the process.
The Council advised members to remain peaceful, lawful and civil during the elections and avoid violence or actions capable of undermining national unity.
On insecurity, the church expressed profound grief over the continued loss of lives and destruction of property among its members and Nigerians generally.
It lamented the recent killings and kidnappings reported across the six geopolitical zones of the country and called on governments at all levels to intensify efforts in protecting lives and property.
The Council also urged members to strengthen community-based vigilance, cooperation and mutual support to improve collective security.
On infrastructure, ECWA acknowledged government’s efforts toward national development but expressed grave concern over the deteriorating condition of roads nationwide.
It said bad roads continue to pose risks to lives and property and also hinder economic productivity and mobility.
The Council called on the Federal Government to prioritise the rehabilitation and maintenance of critical road infrastructure across the country.
On church matters, the Council announced the election of Rev. Chidi Madubuko as ECWA Vice President-elect, replacing outgoing Vice President, Rev. Dr. Sunday Ajise.
It also returned Rev. Dr. Ayuba Asheshe unopposed for a second term as General Secretary.
Similarly, Rev. Dr. Ezekiel Babatunde Omidiji was elected Trustee representing Zone 9.
The Council also approved the creation of three new District Church Councils on a probationary period of two years.
The new councils are Chonge-Pero DCC from Shongom DCC, Tafawa Balewa DCC from Dass DCC and Kontagora DCC from Minna DCC, bringing the total number of DCCs in ECWA to 100.
The Council commended the Executive for initiating development on the church’s acquired land in Garam near Bwari in the Federal Capital Territory and endorsed structured crowdfunding initiatives for the project.
It also resolved to pursue restructuring of ECWA to reflect a more international character in structure, operations and mission engagement.
On welfare, the Council approved a pilot phase of a centralised salary scheme to commence in January 2027 to promote equity, accountability and improved welfare for church workers.
The Council also commended Bingham University for its achievements over the past two decades and noted its increasing global relevance.
It further announced that ECWA Television had been rebranded as Bingham Television and had returned on air via NIGCOMSAT on frequency 12647.
The Council also called for increased support for the Evangelical Missionary Society, EMS, and urged unity and reconciliation among members in Kano.
It appreciated the Federal Government for appointing some ECWA members as ministers and prayed for wisdom and strength for them in service.
The Council also called on members to remain steadfast in faith, unity and commitment to the mission of the church while contributing to national peace, development and righteousness.
