The African Youth Development Alliance has taken note of the publication by an online titled “Nigerian Police SIU Officers Accused Of Extorting N5million From Abuja Resident For Bail,” and wishes to categorically state that the report is riddled with inaccuracies, unverified claims, and misleading assertions aimed at tarnishing the image of officers of the Nigeria Police Force.
Following our independent findings, we can authoritatively state that Abiodun Adekunle Fasasi at no point extorted the sum of N5 million from an Abuja businessman, or any other individual as payment for bail.
The allegations, as presented, are baseless and lack credible supporting evidence.
Furthermore, the so-called receipts referenced by the online medium, which allegedly detail how payments were made, do not in any way indicate the name Abiodun Adekunle Fasasi, nor do they establish any link to the so-called “proxies” purportedly acting on his behalf.
This glaring omission raises serious questions about the credibility and intent of the publication.
It is also important to emphasize that Fasasi, as a senior police officer, is fully aware of the grave professional and legal consequences of extortion.
It is therefore both illogical and inconsistent with his record to suggest that he would engage in such misconduct. Contrary to the claims made, Fasasi did not threaten the detainees with multiple “trumped-up charges,” including cybercrime, drug peddling, tax evasion, money laundering, violation of privacy, or allegations of homosexuality.
These claims are nothing more than fabrications attributed to the complainant and should be disregarded by the public.
Additionally, at no time did Fasasi warn individuals seeking the release of detainees against involving legal representation or escalating the matter.
Such an assertion is not only unfounded but defies logic and standard police procedure.
We hereby challenge the complainant to provide verifiable evidence of the alleged demand of N10 million for bail, as well as the supposed negotiation that reduced the amount to N5 million.
Until such evidence is presented, these claims remain speculative and unsubstantiated.
We reiterate that the receipts cited by the online medium do not bear the name of Abiodun Adekunle Fasasi, further discrediting the narrative being pushed.
Moreover, the Officer in Charge of the Special Investigation Unit (SIU), Moses Jolugbo, is a seasoned and professional officer known for diligence and integrity.
The claim that “efforts to seek internal redress reportedly proved abortive” is a complete fabrication and does not reflect the operational reality within the unit.
The African Youth Development Alliance urges media organizations to uphold the principles of responsible journalism by verifying facts before publication and refraining from sensationalism that could undermine public trust in critical institutions.
