Executive Chairman, Riyom Local Government Council of Plateau state Hon Bature Sati Shuwa, yesterday undertook a historic tour across Riyom Local Government Area to commission several projects executed and completed by his administration.
The projects executed are designed to enhance security, healthcare delivery, and education.
The exercise kicked off in Ganawuri District, where the Chairman commissioned the newly renovated Danwal Police Station.
Our correspondent reports that Riyom local government has come under attacks by gunmen suspected to be bandits who storm communities and kill several innocent citizens.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Shuwa emphasized that security remains a collective responsibility, urging citizens to support security agencies for lasting peace in the area.
He noted that beyond renovating the police station into a befitting structure, his administration had also donated a brand-new motorcycle to aid police surveillance operations.
Hon. Shuwa charged the citizens to jealousy maintain, guard and protect the facilities cited in their community, while reaffirming his administration’s resolve to continue delivering people-oriented projects in line with the fulfillment of the desires of his people; as he continues to support initiatives that will spur development, and improve livelihoods for the people of Riyom Local Government Area.
Former Minister of Sports, Hon. Damishi Sango, who spoke on behalf of the Danwal community, commended the Chairman for prioritizing security. “Without security, nothing will move and no one will sleep,” he stated, while appealing to both the Chairman and the Plateau State Government to provide a functional patrol vehicle to further strengthen surveillance and law enforcement efforts in the area.
Leader of the Riyom PDP Elders Forum, Ngo Mary Dang, also applauded the Chairman for executing people-centered projects despite the council’s lean resources, much of which she said had been diverted to managing lingering security challenges.
From Ganawuri, the Chairman proceeded to commission additional projects across the LGA. These include: Construction of a new Primary Health Care (PHC), in Wereng and Tahoss. The completed Primary Health Care facilities are expected to improve access to basic healthcare and boost safe child delivery and reduce infant mortality.
Other projects include the; renovation of a three-classroom block and office at LEA Primary School, Kyi, to enhance learning conditions and increase pupil enrollment, commissioning of the new Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) office in Riyom to replace the formerly vandalized office, and to further strengthen administrative processes ahead of future elections and the unveiling of a solar-powered cold chain facility, funded by the German Government, (GIZ), and implemented by the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) in collaboration with the Riyom Local Government Council. The facility is constructed to preserve the potency of vaccines and essential drugs required to prevent and treat outbreaks of zoonotic diseases.
At the LEA Primary School in Kyi, the joyous community, especially school children and mothers expressed their appreciation in songs to the Executive Chairman, celebrating what they described as a timely and impactful intervention.
The ceremony featured goodwill messages from notable dignitaries including the Deputy Chairman of the Council, Hon. Gwong Song; Riyom PDP Chairman Hon. Tama Song; Secretary of the Riyom Elders Forum, Da Yusuf Kwon; Gwom Tahoss, Da Kim Dalyop; Gwom Wereng, Da Davou Gyang, Head Teacher, Kyi LEA primary school, Mrs Martha Mwanti; and other key stakeholders, all of whom expressed excitement and praised the Chairman’s developmental strides.
Hon. Bature Sati Shuwa was accompanied throughout the commissioning tour by the Council’s top management team, directors, party chieftains and supporters, traditional rulers, political appointees, security chiefs, critical stakeholders and members of staff.
