The Integrity Youth Alliance (IYA) has strongly condemned and rejected the baseless petition written by some faceless civil society organizations titled “Call for Investigation of CP Jimoh Moshood Over the Abduction, Brutalization and Torture of Activist Hassan Taiwo Soweto and Other Brutality and Reckless Disregard for Public Safety on 28 January 2026.”

In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Kelvin Adegbenga, the Alliance described the petition as a malicious attempt to tarnish the reputation of the Commissioner of Police, Jimoh Olohundare, noting that the majority of the claims contained in the document are fabricated and deliberately designed to discredit the respected police officer.

The group emphasized that CP Olohundare Jimoh has never been involved in abuse of power, unprofessional conduct, illegal arrest, torture, or any form of human rights violations as mischievously alleged in the petition.

The Alliance therefore challenged the so-called CSOs behind the petition to provide concrete and verifiable evidence to substantiate their claims rather than peddling unfounded accusations aimed at misleading the public.

According to the statement, the protest led by activist Hassan Taiwo Soweto, which has been described as “peaceful,” was far from peaceful in reality.

The Alliance noted that the protest disrupted public order as major roads were blocked, thereby preventing residents from accessing health centers, schools, and offices. It added that one of the most unfortunate developments during the protest was the alleged forcing of school children to join the demonstration, a practice the group described as irresponsible and unacceptable.

The Integrity Youth Alliance further stated that law enforcement agencies across the world use non-lethal crowd control measures, including tear gas, to disperse unruly or violent protests when public safety is threatened.

The Alliance questioned the credibility of the allegation made by the activist, asking how someone who claimed he was blindfolded could identify CP Olohundare Jimoh as one of the individuals who allegedly assaulted him.

The group also challenged the petitioners to provide video and photographic evidence to support their claim that firearms from the Lagos State Police Command led to the death of several people during eviction exercises in Makoko and Oworonshoki.

“We are in the age of social media where virtually every incident is captured with mobile phones. If such grave incidents truly occurred, credible visual evidence should exist,” the statement said, stressing that he who alleges must prove.

To further debunk the allegations, the Alliance pointed out that on 13 February 2026, CP Olohundare Jimoh received a commendation from Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, alongside Honourable Members and staff of the Assembly.

The commendation recognized his prompt response and professionalism during a protest that took place at the entrance of the Assembly complex, which could have degenerated into violence if it had not been properly managed by the police.

The Alliance noted that this official commendation, along with several positive media reports from Lagos State, has already discredited the malicious petition circulated by the faceless CSOs.

Quoting directly from paragraph two of the commendation letter issued by the Speaker and the Assembly, the group stated: “Your timely deployment of personnel, effective control measures and engagement with concerned parties ensured that the protesters acted within the confines of the law while also upholding citizens’ rights to peaceful expression. These proactive measures not only prevented a breakdown of law and order but also reinforced public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force as a responsible and responsive institution.”

The Integrity Youth Alliance therefore called on the Police Service Commission to disregard the baseless and mischievous petition, describing it as a calculated attempt to undermine a disciplined and professional officer.

“CP Olohundare Jimoh remains a decent, disciplined, and refined police officer whose professional conduct and commitment to public safety over the years have been exemplary,” Adegbenga said.
