The Langtang North Local Government Council has urged residents to verify information from official sources before drawing conclusions on budgetary provisions and development projects, following growing public discussions surrounding the council’s 2026 budget and project implementation.

Executive Chairman of the council, Hon. Pirfa Jingfa Tyem, said citizens have a right to demand accountability and seek clarification on government activities but cautioned against what he described as misleading interpretations of budget documents circulating on social media and other platforms.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Kum Precious, the chairman commended residents for their interest in governance and commitment to transparency, noting that an informed and engaged citizenry remains critical to democratic development.

According to the statement, the approved budget of the council is a public document accessible through the Plateau State Government’s transparency platform and should serve as the primary reference point for discussions relating to public finances and development projects.

The council explained that a budget is essentially a planning and appropriation document that outlines proposed projects, projected expenditures, anticipated revenues and development priorities for a fiscal year.

It stressed that the inclusion of projects in a budget does not automatically imply that such projects have been completed, abandoned or fully funded, noting that projects usually pass through stages of planning, procurement, mobilization, implementation, supervision and completion.

The chairman said some of the projects recently referenced in public debates are part of the 2026 fiscal framework and are currently at various stages of implementation.

He cited the construction of the Supervisory Councillors’ Office at the Local Government Secretariat as one of the ongoing projects, adding that the procurement process for the solar streetlight initiative had been completed and arrangements were underway for shipment and installation.

The statement further disclosed that work was progressing at Zamko Market, where fencing works are ongoing, while boreholes have already been drilled ahead of the construction of sanitation and toilet facilities aimed at improving hygiene and commercial activities.

Tyem urged residents to distinguish between proposed, ongoing and completed projects to avoid creating misconceptions about government performance.

The chairman also reminded the public that he assumed office in October 2024 and called for a clear distinction between projects and obligations inherited from previous administrations and those undertaken by the current administration.

Reaffirming his commitment to transparency and prudent management of public resources, Tyem said his administration remained focused on delivering impactful projects across critical sectors, including education, agriculture, security, water resources, infrastructure, healthcare, youth development and community advancement.

As part of efforts to deepen public engagement, the council announced plans to begin periodic project updates in the coming weeks.

The updates, according to the statement, will include photographs, project locations, implementation timelines and status reports to enable residents monitor ongoing and completed projects across the local government area.

“The people of Langtang North deserve transparency, accountability and accurate information. We believe the best way to strengthen public confidence is through facts, evidence and visible results,” the statement added.

The council assured residents that ongoing projects and development initiatives would continue to receive the attention required for successful completion and maximum benefit to communities across Langtang North.
