A coalition of youths and stakeholders under the umbrella of the Democratic Movement for Justice (DMJ) in Langtang South, Plateau State, has called for the retention of the House of Representatives seat for the Langtang North/Langtang South Federal Constituency in Langtang South ahead of the next political dispensation.

The group, which staged a peaceful protest in the area, insisted that fairness, equity, and political balance demand that the seat remain in Langtang South to enable the area consolidate on its current representation and development gains.

They argued that although the seat was previously held in Langtang North for several years, its recent shift to Langtang South should be sustained to ensure inclusiveness and balanced political participation within the constituency.

Speaking during the protest, the Chairman of the Plateau Youth Council (PYC), Langtang South chapter, Comrade Joe Ponfa, who led the mobilisation under the DMJ, said the group’s agitation should not be mistaken for support of any particular individual.

He stressed that their position was strictly based on zoning equity and not an endorsement of any aspirant.

“We are not endorsing anyone, we want the representative seat.

According to him, the demand is focused on ensuring that Langtang South retains the House of Representatives seat, while allowing political parties to present any qualified candidate from the area.

Ponfa maintained that Langtang South has long experienced political marginalisation and should be given the opportunity to fully benefit from federal representation.

He added that retaining the seat would help deepen development, strengthen political inclusion, and promote unity among communities in the constituency.

The protest drew a large crowd of youths and stakeholders who marched peacefully, carrying placards with inscriptions such as “Langtang South Deserves Fairness,” “ and “Let the Seat Remain in Langtang South.”

The groups noted that several community leaders and groups have aligned with the position, urging political actors and parties to respect existing zoning understanding to maintain peace and fairness in the area.

They however, appealed for calm and continued dialogue, stressing that the group remains committed to peaceful and democratic engagement in pursuing its demand.
