The Campaign Council of the Rt. Hon. Naanlong Daniel, has called on the All Progressives Congress APC Governorship and House of Assembly Election Committee to declare the results of Piapung A and Piapung B and other collated results so far in the just concluded rerun of Mikang state constituency.
The Council maintained that the results from Piapung A and B were duly collated and should be accorded recognition in line with established party procedure and democratic principles.
According to the Campaign Council, Rt. Hon. Naanlong Daniel recorded a decisive victory in Piapung Ward A with 621 votes against Timdi Nkat’s 199 votes, while in Piapung Ward B, the Speaker polled an overwhelming 1,104 votes against Timdi Nkat’s 10 votes.
The Council expressed deep concern over the non-declaration of the Piapung A and B results despite the completion of collation, noting that results from other areas, including perceived strongholds of opposing interests, were allowed to stand.
The Campaign Council argued that under the APC primary election procedure, the role of a Returning Officer is strictly defined to include the receipt of ward results, verification of figures, collation of constituency results, and declaration of the candidate with the highest valid votes where no formal objection is upheld through due process.
The Council stressed that such authority does not extend to unilateral cancellation of validly collated results or the ordering of rerun elections outside the established party dispute resolution framework.
It therefore questioned the basis for the non-declaration of already collated results from Piapung A and B, insisting that each stage of the electoral process must be allowed to function within its constitutional limits without procedural overreach.
The Council further stated that the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the Piapung results is unfair to voters, many of whom have participated in the process on two separate occasions.
The Campaign Council warned that a third exercise would risk voter fatigue and undermine confidence in the internal democratic process of the party.
The Council equally raised concerns over the handling of the primary process by the Fidelis Mnyim-led Governorship and House of Assembly Election Committee, alleging inconsistencies capable of creating avoidable tension within the party.
The Council further warned that any attempt to continuously reopen already concluded collation processes in selectively affected wards risks eroding confidence in the credibility of the entire primary election, and may be perceived by party faithful as a deliberate attempt to distort the clear electoral will already expressed at the grassroots level.
The Campaign Organization also called on all organs of the party to urgently intervene in the matter. maintaining that results were duly accredited and collated at the ward level and officially received by the Returning Officer, raising concern over why a fresh rerun is being contemplated instead of the declaration of already collated results in line with established party procedure.
The Council maintained that the results recorded across the wards reflects the clear support enjoyed by Rt. Hon. Naanlong Daniel and urged the Committee to recognize and declare the collated results of Piapung A and B in the interest of party cohesion and democratic credibility.
While reaffirming confidence in the APC as a party founded on internal democracy, fairness, and due process, the Campaign Council expressed optimism that the party leadership would uphold due process, protect the integrity of the primary election, and ensure that every validly collated vote is duly recognized.
