Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on the Nigerian Navy, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, has commended officers, ratings and personnel of the Nigerian Navy for their dedication, sacrifice and professionalism in safeguarding Nigeria’s maritime domain as the service marks its 70th anniversary.
Gagdi also reaffirmed the commitment of the House of Representatives to continued legislative support aimed at strengthening the Navy’s operational capacity and ensuring accountability in the management of resources.
In a statement issued to mark the anniversary, the lawmaker described the 70-year milestone as a significant moment to reflect on the contributions of the Nigerian Navy to national security, unity and economic stability.
He noted that the anniversary celebrations, which featured the International Fleet Review and other strategic engagements, provided an opportunity to evaluate the Navy’s achievements and future priorities.
“It is a great honour and privilege for me, as Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on the Nigerian Navy and the longest-serving Chairman of the Committee, to participate in the activities commemorating the 70th Anniversary of the Nigerian Navy,” Gagdi said.
The lawmaker said he was particularly honoured to interact with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, during the commemorative events.
He congratulated personnel of the Navy for seven decades of dedicated service, patriotism and commitment to the defence of Nigeria’s territorial waters and maritime interests.
Gagdi assured that the House Committee on the Nigerian Navy would continue to provide effective legislative oversight to ensure prudent use of public resources and the implementation of policies that enhance the Navy’s efficiency.
“On behalf of the House of Representatives and the Nigerian people, I reaffirm our commitment to supporting a professional, accountable and well-equipped Navy capable of effectively safeguarding our territorial waters and enhancing maritime security,” he added.
He also appreciated Nigerians, particularly his constituents in Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency, for their continued support and confidence in his leadership.
The lawmaker expressed optimism that sustained collaboration among stakeholders would strengthen national institutions and contribute to a safer and more prosperous Nigeria.
The Nigerian Navy, established in 1956, has continued to play a key role in maritime security, anti-piracy operations and protection of Nigeria’s offshore assets.
