Plateau State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Naanlong Daniel, has extended an olive branch to former federal lawmaker and elder statesman, Rt. Hon. George Daika, saying he bears no grudge against him and that political contests should not be allowed to destroy longstanding relationships.

Daniel, in a move aimed at promoting reconciliation within Mikang Local Government Area, urged political actors and residents to embrace unity, forgiveness and mutual respect in the interest of peace and development.

The Speaker, in a statement by his Press Secretary, Philip Eplong, on Thursday, said the recent All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election was merely a democratic exercise and should not become a source of division among the people.

“Political contests should never be mistaken for personal enmity. Differences arising from elections are part of the democratic process and should end once the exercise is concluded,” Daniel said.

He stressed that he had no misunderstanding or personal disagreement with Daika, whom he described as a statesman whose years of service and contributions to public life had earned him the respect of the people.

The Speaker said leaders who had served at the national, state and local government levels deserved honour and recognition irrespective of political affiliations.

According to him, he continues to hold Daika in high esteem and values his experience, wisdom and leadership qualities in advancing the unity and progress of Mikang and Plateau State.

Daniel appealed to party members and supporters to put the primary election behind them, forgive one another and work together towards strengthening the APC in Mikang.

He warned against statements and actions capable of insulting or ridiculing respected leaders, saying such conduct only deepens divisions and undermines peaceful coexistence.

The Speaker urged residents to promote civility, tolerance and responsible public discourse, stressing that unity remained the foundation for political success and sustainable development.

He assured the people of Mikang that his leadership would continue to promote inclusiveness, fairness and justice while working with all stakeholders regardless of previous political differences.

Daniel called on the people to close ranks and support one another, saying a united Mikang would be better positioned to achieve greater progress for present and future generations.
