– Former Osun State Governor and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government of excelling only in political manoeuvring while failing woefully in delivering good governance.

Speaking on Tuesday during the inauguration of ADC officials and party structures in Ila/Ifedayo/Boluwaduro Federal Constituency, Aregbesola told thousands of party supporters that the current administration had plunged Nigerians into poverty, hunger and insecurity.

“This government has scored A1 in politics and F9 in good governance,” Aregbesola declared. “That is what our party, the ADC, is determined to correct.”

The ex-governor, who is leading the ADC’s restructuring efforts in Osun ahead of the 2026 elections, criticised the federal government’s handling of critical sectors.

He said over 76 per cent of Nigeria’s 37,000 kilometres of federal roads are currently unmotorable, yet priority is being given to the controversial Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project, which he argued would not significantly boost the nation’s economy.

“The present government at the centre has failed in security, the economy and education, the major yardsticks for measuring performance,” he stated.

Aregbesola contrasted the APC’s record with his administration’s achievements in Osun between 2010 and 2018, highlighting the school feeding programme that benefited over 50,000 children, youth empowerment schemes for more than 60,000 young people, and pro-poor policies that he said reduced hunger “to the barest minimum.”

Pledging that the ADC would restore “responsible leadership and good governance,” Aregbesola described his new party as “the friend of the masses” and vowed to take its message to every ward, village and city in the state.

“We will continue to preach the gospel of the ADC across all divides,” he said, urging residents to vote for the party in the forthcoming local and national elections.

The event in Ila-Orangun marked the beginning of a statewide tour to inaugurate ADC structures across Osun’s nine federal constituencies.
