Ahead of the upcoming elections, prominent Ukwa leader, Chief Sir Ejikeme C. Alozie-Nwagboso, has announced his decision not to contest, citing respect for the Ukwa and Asa zoning arrangement.
In a statement released on Saturday and signed personally by him, the business executive and community leader, popularly known as _Ebube Agu Na Ohambelem_ and _Ugo Ebe N’Aja Na Etiti Ozaa_, said the decision followed wide consultations with elders and key stakeholders.
The statement was in response to enquiries from supporters over why his name did not appear on the ballot.
“Leadership requires difficult decisions. After careful consultation with elders and key stakeholders, I have chosen not to contest in this election cycle out of respect for our Ukwa and Asa zoning principled agreement,” Chief Alozie-Nwagboso said.
He noted that while every citizen has the constitutional right to seek office, communal peace must take precedence over personal ambition.
“While every citizen has the constitutional right to seek office, our community’s peace depends on rotational justice and mutual respect. Personal ambition must always yield to communal unity and stability,” he stated.
Reassuring his supporters, the MBA, CMC, FIMC certified leader said his political journey is far from over, adding that true leadership extends beyond holding office.
“To my supporters: our journey is far from over. True leadership extends beyond holding office. As we look ahead, we remain committed to Ukwa’s progress, whether that means mentoring upcoming leaders or answering the call to serve when the time is right,” he added.
He urged the people of Ukwa to remain peaceful and participate constructively in the upcoming elections.
