BEING A PRESS CONFERENCE BY THE COALITION OF CIVIL SOCIETY AND HUMAN RIGHTS ORGANIZATION HELT AT NANI AND BOY CONFERENCE HALL MAIDUGURI DATED 22th JANUARY, 2023

VOTE OF CONFIDENCE TO THE NIGERIAN ARMED FORCES

Gentlemen of the Press, members of CSOs here present, it is with great sense of patriotism and nationhood that we address you today, this press conference is necessitated by the need to amplify and appreciate the patriotism and sacrifices of the men and officers of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, it is expedient that we call on Nigerians both at home and in diaspora to increase their support for the men and officers who have sworn to protect lives and property of Nigerians as well as to defend the territorial integrity of Nigeria even at the expense of paying the supreme price.

This press briefing is expedient to bolster the Morale of men and officers which will translate to the success of operations of the Armed Forces accross many fronts in the country, fighting to defend Nigeria’s territorial integrity in many installations simultaneously is a daunting task that can only be surmounted when Nigerians from all works of life contribute their quota. Gentlemen of the press, you will agree with me that the cliche “Security is everybody’s business” is as true as the saying “the Pope is Catholic”. The citizens and political class all have pivotal roles to play in the success story of the Armed Forces.

The success of any operation depends on good intelligence gathering and the sources of these Informations are usually the civilian population, this makes trust and mutual respect very imperative in the fight against insecurity, banditry, terrorism, armed secession agitations etc. We therefore by this brief call on Nigerians to continually avail Information to the military at all times to help them plan better towards precision led operations to improve the success rate and precision of military operations in the country.

The Coalition of Civil society and human rights organisations also calls on the political class to stay true to the oath they swore to, providing the requisite resources and logistical support to the military and this should be done within the best possible timing. It is worthy of note to mention the efforts of the Government since the Administration of President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR in purchasing modern combat infrastructure including Tucano jets for the military. The Government under the Leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR has also sustained the support to the Armed Forces however we call on Mr. President to increase funding and budgetary allocations to increase Nigeria’s military capability and improve welfare for men and officers of the Armed Forces as well as their families back home in the barracks.

This coalition states unequivocally its support for the Nigerian Armed Forces and its leadership under General Christopher Gwabin Musa OFR, all the service Chiefs, Theatre Commanders, Commanding officers and all Officers and Men of the Nigerian Armed Forces. We shall continually advocate for better welfare and improved working conditions as well as better support from the Government and people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The sacrifices of these men of valour is highly appreciated and it should be in record that today we PASS VOTE OF CONFIDENCE TO THE NIGERIAN ARMED FORCES, we shall continue to be partners in progress and the bridge between the Armed Forces and the People of Nigeria.
