The emergence of Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate has reinforced what many citizens describe as a decisive political moment for the state.
Fresh from a commanding victory in the party’s primary election, where he secured 233,335 votes against 3,070 votes polled by his closest rival, retired Navy Commodore Yilchini Jan Bida, Mutfwang’s candidacy has been widely interpreted as a strong endorsement of his leadership by party members across Plateau State.
The scale of the victory, spanning all local government areas, reflects not only political strength but also deep-rooted acceptance among grassroots supporters and key stakeholders.
For many within the party, the outcome represents a clear and unmistakable mandate.
A Mandate Anchored on Trust
Speaking on the outcome of the primaries, a resident of Jos South Local Government Area, Mrs Mercy Ajang, said the landslide victory underscores the level of confidence reposed in Mutfwang’s administration.
“With a total of 236,405 votes recorded, the result clearly reflects the trust people have in his leadership and the impact of his governance,” she said.
Across communities, supporters view the victory as more than a routine political success. Rather, it is seen as validation of a leadership style that prioritizes inclusion, responsiveness, and practical results.
Another resident, Mrs Ajoke Alice Buriamoh, described the outcome as well deserved, noting that Mutfwang has remained a unifying figure across the state.
“He is a leader who has carried everyone along. As we approach the general election, my family and I will come out to support him,” she said.
Strong Backing from Party Leadership
Beyond the numbers, Mutfwang’s candidacy enjoys the backing of critical stakeholders within the APC.
Leaders at both national and state levels, including the APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, have thrown their weight behind his candidacy, signaling unity and alignment within the party.
A political stakeholder, Mr Abok James, noted that such unity is crucial in strengthening the party’s chances ahead of the general election.
“In a competitive political environment, a united structure provides the foundation for electoral success,” he said.
The consolidation of support across party lines, he added, positions the APC in Plateau State as a formidable force capable of mobilizing effectively at all levels.
Performance Driving Popularity
At the heart of the widespread support for Mutfwang is his performance in office.
Since assuming leadership, his administration has focused on rebuilding governance structures and delivering on key developmental priorities.
Infrastructure development has remained a central focus, with road construction and rehabilitation projects improving connectivity within both urban and rural areas.
These interventions have enhanced movement, facilitated trade, and improved access to essential services, particularly in previously underserved communities.
Security and Peace Building
Security remains a critical issue in Plateau State, and Mutfwang’s administration has placed strong emphasis on peace building and conflict resolution.
Through collaboration with security agencies and engagement with community leaders, efforts have been made to address tensions and promote dialogue across affected areas.

As the state moves toward the general election, the argument for supporting Mutfwang is rooted in continuity, experience, and proven capacity.
Supporters believe that sustaining the current pace of development requires consistent leadership, warning that frequent changes in administration often disrupt ongoing projects and slow progress.
A trader at Terminus Market, Mr Haruna Tata, said continuity would help consolidate existing gains.
“Changing leadership frequently can disrupt development.
With his experience, he is better positioned to build on what has already been achieved and move the state forward,” he said.
