By Golok Nanmwa, Jos

Fresh from a resounding victory in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election, Hon. Yusuf Gagdi has once again emerged as the party’s standard bearer for the Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam (PKK) Federal Constituency, setting the stage for what many stakeholders describe as a defining moment ahead of the general election.

His victory at the primaries has been widely interpreted as a reaffirmation of confidence in his leadership, performance, and sustained engagement with the grassroots.

Across PKK, party faithful and community leaders are now turning attention to the next phase , the general election ,with growing calls for unity and collective support.

A Mandate Renewed by the People

Gagdi’s emergence did not come as a surprise to political observers within Plateau State and beyond.

Rather, it reflected what many described as a natural outcome of his consistent visibility and delivery of tangible projects across the constituency.

For constituents who participated in the primary election, the result represented more than just party politics; it was a reaffirmation of trust built over years of representation.

Stakeholders argue that such a mandate places responsibility on both the candidate and the electorate , on the one hand to consolidate achievements, and on the other to sustain the momentum through collective support

Track Record Driving Support

Central to the growing call for unity behind Gagdi is his record of achievements across key sectors.

In education, interventions at the Federal College of Education Pankshin and across several primary and secondary schools have improved infrastructure and learning conditions.

Classroom construction, provision of educational materials, and scholarship opportunities have contributed to expanding access to education, particularly for students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Support for candidates writing examinations under the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has also eased access to higher education pathways for many young people in the constituency.

Infrastructure and Rural Development
Infrastructure development remains one of the most visible indicators of Gagdi’s stewardship.

Through the construction and rehabilitation of rural roads, communities that were once difficult to access have been connected to markets and economic centres.

These interventions have significantly improved the movement of goods and services, particularly for farmers.

Road projects along key corridors such as Gungji–Shiwer–Dokpai and parts of Dengi–Kwalmiya–Gum–Gagdi–Wawus have opened up economic opportunities and enhanced mobility.

Complementing these efforts are rural electrification projects, including the installation of solar-powered streetlights, which have improved security and supported night-time economic activities.

Water, Health and Social Services

Access to clean water has been improved through the drilling of boreholes and the installation of solar-powered water systems across multiple communities.

These interventions have reduced the burden on residents, particularly women and children, who often travel long distances in search of water.

In the health sector, primary healthcare centres have been constructed and upgraded, bringing medical services closer to the people.

Medical outreach programmes have provided free consultations, medications, and screenings, improving health outcomes in rural areas.

Empowerment and Economic Opportunities.

Another major pillar of Gagdi’s representation has been empowerment.
Through various programmes, thousands of youths and women have been trained in vocational skills and supported with tools and starter packs to establish businesses.

Agricultural interventions, including the distribution of fertilizers, improved seedlings, and farming equipment, have boosted productivity and strengthened food security.

These initiatives have contributed to job creation, economic inclusion, and improved livelihoods across the constituency.

The Advantage of Experience and Ranking Status

As a ranking member of the House of Representatives and Chairman of the House Committee on Navy, Gagdi brings significant experience and influence to his role.

Our correspondent reports that ranking lawmakers are better positioned to attract federal projects, influence policy decisions, and secure opportunities for their constituencies.

This advantage becomes even more critical as competition for federal resources intensifies. Retaining such experience within the National Assembly is therefore seen as a strategic benefit for PKK.

Why Unity Matters Now

With the APC primary concluded, attention has shifted to the general election, where broader support will be required.

Several stakeholders who spoke to our correspondent emphasize that unity within the constituency is essential to sustaining progress and ensuring electoral success. Divisions, they warn, could undermine the gains already made and weaken the constituency’s collective bargaining power.

By rallying around a common candidate like Yusuf Gagdi PKK stands to strengthen its voice and enhance its chances of attracting greater development.

Continuity as a Development Strategy.

One of the strongest arguments in favour of Gagdi’s candidacy is continuity.

In many cases, development projects require time to mature. Frequent changes in representation often disrupt this process, leading to abandoned projects and missed opportunities.

With an established record and ongoing initiatives, continuity offers a pathway to consolidating gains and expanding development efforts.

Expectations Ahead of the General Election

Despite the achievements recorded, expectations remain high.

A constituent, Rotji Aaron from Kanke Local Government Area, who spoke to our reporter, said residents are looking forward to more roads, expanded access to electricity and water, improved healthcare services, and increased job opportunities.

“He has done well, and we will support him to excel in the forthcoming election,” he said.

Mrs Lydia Tanko another PKK constituent said for us now the message across PKK remains clear , to consolidate gains, strengthen unity, and rally behind a candidate whose track record continues to shape the development narrative of the constituency.

That person is Yusuf Gagdi, she added.
