The Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) wishes to clarify that the individuals involved in the tragic incident on Mabushi Bridge are not staff members or representatives of AMAC.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the family who lost loved ones in the accident. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time”

“Our investigation reveals that the perpetrators are touts commonly known as “abaro” operating around Area 1 Roundabout. They allegedly dragged a commuter from the roundabout to Mabushi Bananx junction, where the incident occurred, resulting in the loss of lives”

AMAC is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of residents and commuters within its jurisdiction.

The Council call on relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and take necessary actions to prevent such occurrences in the future.

Recall that on February 13, 2025, Executive Chairman AMAC, Christopher Zakka Maikalangu raised an alarm about touts impersonating council officials and harassing motorists, damaging the council’s reputation.

He emphasized that genuine AMAC staff undergo rigorous training twice a year, including sessions with professionals and security agencies, to learn proper revenue collection techniques.

Maikalangu stated, “Unfortunately, many touts are tarnishing AMAC’s image by harassing motorists using our name. Our staff are trained to operate within the law, unlike these impostors.

They wear jackets and claim to be AMAC staff, but when we arrest them, they will claim to be from NURTW or DOAS, that is FCTA. So, there is a difference between AMAC officials and the touts.”

A statement signed by Kingsley Madaki Senior Special Assistant, Media and Public Affairs to Executive Chairman AMAC reads that the Executive Chairman has directed the establishment of a special task force to apprehend these touts.

“We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of residents as we work together to build a safer and more harmonious environment”

AMAC values its relationship with the community and will continue to work towards maintaining peace and order within its area of jurisdiction. We remain committed to serving the community with dedication and integrity.
