It is with profound grief, burning outrage, and a demand for absolute justice that the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) announces the cold-blooded murder of our dedicated staff member, Oladipupo Akinola. Mr. Akinola, an officer under the Mobile Advert Permit department, was executed in broad daylight during a routine enforcement operation today, Friday, April 24, 2026, at the NITEL Junction, Wuse II.
The tragedy occurred while AMAC officials were performing their statutory duties, identifying vehicles in default of the 2026 Operational Permits.
A Hilux vehicle reportedly belonging to a Chinese company and conveying a Chinese national, was intercepted for operating with expired 2025 documentation.
While the occupants initially signaled an intent to comply, the situation took a barbaric turn.
Two individuals dressed in Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) uniforms arrived at the scene, not as peacemakers, but as aggressors.
In a chilling display of lawlessness, these alleged personnel bypassed professional dialogue and resorted to extreme violence.
During the confrontation, one of the uniformed individuals discharged his firearm at point-blank range, killing Mr. Akinola on the spot.
To complete this heinous act, the assailants used the threat of live ammunition to disperse terrified passersby, forcefully hijacked the impounded vehicle, and fled the scene leaving a fallen public servant in a pool of his own blood.
The leadership of the Council, under Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, makes it clear. “We will not be intimidated by the barrel of a gun.
To the NSCDC: We call upon the leadership of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to immediately investigate and identify these individuals.
The public deserves to know: Are these your officers or are they hired mercenaries in your uniform?
The matter has been formally reported to the Zone 3 Police Station. We demand a swift, transparent, and thorough criminal investigation.
“We are investigating the link between this Chinese firm and the armed men who acted as their private enforcement squad.
“No entity, foreign or domestic, is above the laws of the Federal Capital Territory.
”This is a dark day for Abuja,” the Council stated.
“The killing of an officer for asking a citizen to pay a statutory permit fee is an assault on the state itself.
“We will work tirelessly with the Nigerian Police Force to ensure these perpetrators are apprehended, unmasked, and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
“We extend our deepest, heart-wrenching condolences to the family of Oladipupo Akinola.
He was a hero of the grassroots, murdered while protecting the revenue meant to develop our city.
“His sacrifice will not be in vain.
Justice must be swift.
“Justice must be seen. Justice must be served”.
