As political activities begin to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, Pharmacist John Chun has emerged as one of the strongest contenders for the House of Representatives seat for Riyom/Barkin Ladi Federal Constituency of Plateau State.

With a growing profile rooted in grassroots politics, philanthropy and community development, Chun is increasingly being seen by many as the man to beat in the race.

The aspirant’s political ambition has continued to gain traction across Riyom and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas following a series of consultations with party leaders, traditional rulers, youth groups, women organisations and other relevant stakeholders.

A farmer in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, Mr. Lazarus Badung, said Chun’s strength lies in his accessibility, wide acceptance and longstanding relationship with communities across the constituency.

Over the years, he has reportedly distinguished himself through humanitarian interventions, including medical outreaches, scholarships, support for widows, empowerment programmes for youths and assistance to vulnerable persons.

Another constituent, Mr. Gabriel Bot, said it is John Chun’s turn to represent the constituency at the National Assembly.

According to him, “He has done well for the people and deserves our support.”

Bot added that Chun’s empowerment drive has endeared him to constituents who see him as a compassionate leader committed to improving lives even before holding public office.

Beyond empowerment, Chun has also unveiled what many describe as a clear and practical vision for the constituency if elected into the Green Chamber.

He has pledged to champion effective representation, people-oriented legislation and attract federal presence to Riyom and Barkin Ladi.

Speaking during recent consultations, Chun identified insecurity, poor road infrastructure, youth unemployment and inadequate support for farmers as some of the critical challenges confronting the constituency.

He promised to sponsor bills and facilitate interventions aimed at restoring peace, improving rural roads, empowering youths and protecting farming communities.

The pharmacist-turned-politician also emphasised the need to boost agriculture through improved seedlings, fertilisers, mechanised farming and access to markets, given that farming remains the major source of livelihood in the constituency.

His message of unity, development and inclusive leadership has continued to resonate with many constituents, especially among the youth and women.

Several stakeholders have reportedly begun endorsing his aspiration, describing him as a capable, credible and people-oriented leader with the capacity to deliver quality representation.

Bitrus Lyop from Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, who spoke to our correspondent, urged citizens to support Chun, saying he would provide quality legislation if elected.

With his increasing consultations, growing endorsements and sustained grassroots engagement, I believe John Chun’s aspiration may significantly shape the contest for the Riyom/Barkin Ladi Reps seat in 2027 , Lyop added.
