The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has recorded another major political gain in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, following the defection of youth politician, Obinna Simon, popularly known as MC Tagwaye, alongside his supporters, to the party.

Tagwaye, a former member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, in the recent Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, Chairmanship election, was formally received by NDC National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, the National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas, members of the National Working Committee, the FCT Chairman, Hon. Haruna Pai, and other senior party officials.
Presenting Tagwaye to the national leadership, the FCT Chairman, Hon. Pai, described him as a widely known politician in the FCT and across the country, assuring him of the support of party members from all wards in the nation’s capital.

Welcoming the new member, the National Chairman of the NDC, Senator Moses Cleopas, disclosed that the party leadership had held a series of engagements with Tagwaye before his formal declaration for the party.
According to Cleopas, the discussions convinced the leadership that Tagwaye was well-suited to become a member of the Nigeria Democratic Congress.
“After holding several meetings with him and discussing extensively, we found him to be a good man and fit to join the NDC. The FCT Chairman had presented him to me, and today, I have formally brought him to
our National Leader to decorate him,” he said.
Tagwaye was thereafter decorated with the NDC fez cap and issued a membership card by the National Chairman and other leaders of the party.
NDC National Leader, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, received Tagwaye to the NDC and described the Nigeria Democratic Congress as Nigeria’s only stable political party without internal conflicts, litigation, crises, or factions.
He thanked Nigerians for their growing confidence in the NDC and called on citizens to take advantage of the party’s ongoing nationwide membership registration drive to the NDC
Dickson noted that the party remained committed to building a credible alternative platform capable of repositioning Nigeria for progress and good governance.
Tagwaye thanked the leadership of the party, describing it as a privilege to become part of the NDC.
He said his decision to join the party was not driven by personal ambition, but by the desire to contribute to a better Nigeria.
“I joined the NDC for the betterment of Nigerians. After the elections and the crises that rocked my former party, my followers and supporters kept asking about my next move. After careful consideration, we decided to come to the NDC.
“Coming to the NDC is for history and posterity, so that it will be remembered that at a time when this country needed people to stand against injustice, inhumanity, mismanagement, insecurity, and other vices, we were part of that movement.
“My reception into the NDC today shows that the party recognises talent, identifies value, and welcomes people who are ready to serve.
“Our network and support base is not only in the FCT. It extends across many States, and we are ready to take the NDC message across the country.
“Today, I am here to declare exclusively for the NDC. I am a straightforward person, and I do not belong to any other party. Whatever assignment party gives me, I am ready and willing to carry it out fully,” he said.
He also appreciated Barrister Amanda Pam, who was present at the occasion, describing her as a strong pillar in the political landscape of the FCT and thanking her for her guidance and support throughout his political journey.
Tagwaye joining the NDC is widely seen as another indication of the growing momentum of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, especially among youth leaders and grassroots political actors across Nigeria.
